As part of its mission to strengthen Cambodia’s human resources and productivity, Paragon International University offers a wide range of scholarships annually to support talented students. Among these is the university Rector’s Scholarship, established in 2020, which has already enabled approximately 30 exceptional young individuals to pursue their aspirations. The university remains committed to expanding these opportunities.
The Rector’s Scholarship was introduced in response to the COVID-19 crisis of 2020, reflecting the university’s dedication to human resource development and its contributions to national and community advancement. This prestigious scholarship is designed to recognize and nurture students with exceptional talent, leadership, and innovation in diverse fields, including technology, science, social development, politics, art, and music. It aims to empower young individuals who demonstrate the potential to create meaningful societal impact.
For the 2024–2025 academic year, applications for the Rector’s Scholarship are open from mid-November to December 2, 2024. Eligible candidates can apply through the university’s official website by submitting essential documents such as their high school diploma or Baccalaureate exam results, along with certificates of achievement, awards, volunteer experience, and a compelling scholarship essay.
Dr. Bulat Akhemetkarimov, Rector of Paragon International University, emphasized that the scholarship selection process is highly rigorous and overseen by the Scholarship Committee to identify the most deserving candidates.
“The Rector’s Scholarship aligns with our mission to provide high-quality education and contribute to Cambodia’s human resource development. It fosters future leaders and innovators, ensuring that they are well-prepared to excel in their chosen fields and make a global impact,” Dr. Akhemetkarimov said.
He added that this program not only enhances the university’s reputation but also plays a vital role in promoting higher education in Cambodia, developing national and global leaders, and encouraging innovation and creativity. Applicants for the Rector Scholarship are evaluated based on five key criteria: (1) Academic Excellence for demonstrated through effort and intellectual curiosity. (2) Extracurricular Involvement mean that active participation in community, social, or organizational activities. (3) Leadership Potential to proven leadership skills and the ability to take initiative. (4) Unique Talents and Skills to those skills in areas such as arts, music, science, or sports. (5) Global Perspective mean the open-mindedness and interest in international issues.
Over the past four years, more than 200 students have applied annually for this scholarship, with 30 outstanding recipients benefiting from it.
One such recipient is Chhum Somnang, a second-year student in Management of Information Systems (MIS) at Paragon International University. Awarded the Rector’s Scholarship in 2023, Samnang shared how it alleviated his financial burden, allowing him to focus on his studies without stress. “The scholarship has opened a path for me to achieve my academic goals while staying engaged in community activities,” he said.
Somnang credited his achievement to meeting the scholarship’s criteria, particularly his dedication to academic excellence, active participation in volunteer work, and contributions to civil society projects in Cambodia. He encouraged other aspiring students to apply, advising them to prepare thoroughly by organizing documents such as certificates of achievement, awards, and recommendation letters.
“I urge young people with a passion for learning, community involvement, or talents in arts, sports, or other fields to seize this opportunity. The application process is straightforward if you’re well-prepared,” Samnang added.
As one of Cambodia’s leading universities, Paragon International University has been a key player in developing the country’s human capital for years. For the 2024 academic year, the university offers 11 undergraduate programs across three faculties:
- Faculty of Engineering: Architecture, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering.
- Faculty of Information and Computer Technology: Computer Science, Digital Arts and Design, Management of Information Systems.
