Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Real DaraYuth, a second-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) student at Paragon International University, serves as Assistant to the Head of Global and Transactional Banking at Canadia Bank, one of Cambodia’s leading financial institutions. He completed his undergraduate studies at Guangxi University of Finance and Economics in China and is now pursuing his MBA to sharpen his leadership and strategic management skills, which he believes are essential for Cambodia’s evolving banking sector.

Having completed one year of the MBA program, DaraYuth emphasizes how the curriculum has broadened his perspective, not only in business but also in leadership development. He sees the MBA as a transformative program that equips Cambodia’s future business leaders with the necessary tools to elevate the country’s human resource capabilities in response to the challenges of a globalized economy.

Q: How would you describe your MBA journey so far? How has it contributed to your professional growth at Canadia Bank?
DaraYuth: I’m currently finishing my second semester of the MBA at Paragon International University. Throughout the program, I’ve been able to directly apply what I learn to my work in banking. One standout course for me has been Financial Statement Analysis, which has significantly enhanced my ability to interpret financial data and assess the performance of companies and banks, an essential skill in my daily responsibilities.

Another subject that has had a major impact is Evidence-Based Management. It has taught me the importance of thorough research and data collection before making business decisions. This approach, gathering evidence from internal data, expert interviews, and performance metrics has been invaluable in refining my analytical and decision-making skills at work.

Q: Many Cambodian students aspire to pursue graduate degrees abroad. Why did you choose to pursue your MBA locally at ParagonU?
DaraYuth: For me, the decision was strategic. I already hold a stable professional position in the banking sector, and pursuing an MBA locally allows me to continue working while upgrading my qualifications. Studying abroad would have required me to pause my career, which wasn’t an option I wanted to take. ParagonU offers a flexible schedule with evening and online classes, enabling working professionals like me to balance both work and study effectively.

Q: In your view, how will the MBA program shape your future career and address Cambodia’s market needs?
DaraYuth: The MBA is a comprehensive program that covers critical areas like Strategic Management, Financial Management, Data Analysis, Marketing, and Networking. It’s not just about business theory; it’s about developing practical skills that are immediately applicable to the Cambodian market.

Cambodia is a developing country that needs visionary leaders and strategic thinkers. The MBA program is designed to nurture these exact qualities. It helps build a workforce that is not only technically skilled but also equipped with leadership, critical thinking, and soft skills essential for the country’s economic advancement.

Q: Specifically in the banking sector, how is the MBA advancing your skills and career potential?
DaraYuth: The banking sector is increasingly demanding professionals who are adept at digital transformation, strategic problem-solving, and project leadership. Through case studies and practical applications in the MBA program, I’ve learned to approach complex challenges with deeper analytical thinking and evidence-based solutions.

Moreover, the program has strengthened my leadership competencies, preparing me to take on large-scale projects and manage teams effectively. These are vital skills that are currently in high demand within Cambodia’s banking industry as it aligns with international standards.

Q: Why did you choose Paragon International University for your MBA?
DaraYuth: I’ve been familiar with Paragon International University since its days as Zaman University. Over the years, it has built a strong reputation for quality education with international standards. When I was considering MBA programs, I thoroughly reviewed ParagonU’s curriculum and found it well-structured, offering a diverse range of courses that are relevant across various industries, including banking.

Additionally, ParagonU provides merit-based scholarships and a flexible learning environment, which made it the perfect fit for a working professional like me. Evening classes and online learning options allow me to maintain my full-time job while pursuing higher education.

Q: Balancing a full-time job with graduate studies can be challenging. How have you managed this?
DaraYuth: It’s true that working full-time while studying can be demanding. Many people feel that pursuing a Master’s degree isn’t feasible once they are deeply engaged in their careers. However, I believe that continuous learning is essential, regardless of age or workload.

Personally, I’ve maintained a well-planned schedule that allows me to balance both responsibilities. Yes, it requires discipline and perseverance, but the long-term benefits far outweigh the temporary challenges. For me, this MBA is an investment in my future one that will open doors to leadership roles in the banking sector and beyond.

Q: What advice would you give to others who are considering pursuing an MBA like you?
DaraYuth: I strongly encourage professionals to consider an MBA, especially if they aspire to leadership roles in the private sector. An MBA is truly a “Game Changer.” It enhances your ability to think strategically, manage projects, and understand business operations at a higher level.

For those who are concerned about balancing work and study, I would say that it’s entirely possible with determination and good time management. If you are committed to advancing your career, an MBA will provide the knowledge, network, and skills necessary to achieve that goal.
