Paragon International University is set to relaunch its Digital Arts and Design undergraduate program for the 2024-2025 academic year, addressing the increasing demand for digital expertise in today’s global marketplace. As Cambodia navigates the 4th Industrial Revolution, the program’s revival is aimed at preparing students for careers in the expanding fields of digital communication, marketing, and design—both locally and internationally.
The newly re-established Digital Arts and Design department will operate under the Faculty of Information and Computer Technologies, after a temporary pause. This major offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines visual design, video production, digital storytelling, and creative innovation, equipping students with critical skills needed in the digital age.
A Focus on Comprehensive Digital Skillsets
The program is designed to enhance students’ proficiency in global digital technologies. It will cover a broad range of technical and creative subjects, from graphic design and digital storytelling to 2D and 3D computer graphics. Students will also gain hands-on experience in video game design, animation, and multimedia production, ensuring they are well-rounded and industry-ready upon graduation.
The curriculum is structured in two phases. In the first two years, students will build a strong foundation by studying subjects such as Khmer literature, economics, programming, and art history, alongside fundamental courses in typography, digital design, and color theory. The final two years will see a shift toward more specialized topics, including 3D animation, UI/UX design, and game development, allowing students to hone their skills in their chosen field.
Graduates of the program can pursue diverse careers such as 2D and 3D animators, video game designers, graphic designers, digital artists, and web designers, making them highly sought-after professionals in industries like multimedia, digital marketing, and creative services.
Meeting the Demands of the Digital Economy
Laurence E. Maningo, Program Coordinator for Digital Arts and Design at Paragon, highlighted the importance of the major in today’s evolving technological landscape. “The demand for skilled professionals in areas like video game development, digital marketing, and multimedia is growing rapidly, both in Cambodia and globally,” He said. “Our program aims to cultivate the skills needed for success in branding, content creation, UX/UI design, and more.”
Maningo added that Paragon’s curriculum is carefully designed to foster both technical expertise and innovative thinking, with a strong emphasis on practical applications. “Students are encouraged to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world projects, helping them build a portfolio and reputation while still in school,” He noted.
The vision behind the program extends beyond technical skills. “At Paragon, we strive to not only equip students with the tools they need for the digital world but to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a strong cultural identity,” Maningo said. “We’re committed to shaping the future of digital artists in Cambodia, with the potential to excel at both national and international levels.”
Supporting Cambodia’s Digital Future
Paragon International University’s Rector, Balut Akhemetkarimov, emphasized the university’s dedication to preparing students for the fast-growing digital economy in Cambodia. “The need for skilled human resources in digital arts and design is expanding as the digital industry accelerates,” he said. “Paragon is committed to contributing to this growth by providing high-quality education that produces graduates ready to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.”
Akhemetkarimov added that students at Paragon not only receive top-tier technical education but also develop strong ethical and cultural foundations, making them competitive in both local and international job markets. “Our goal is to ensure that students graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to sectors such as marketing, advertising, entertainment, and technology,” he said.
Through the Digital Arts and Design program, Paragon International University aims to train the next generation of digital innovators who will help drive Cambodia’s digital transformation and contribute to the global economy.
